It’s celebration time. No, it’s not a birthday party or baby shower. It’s not a graduation gathering or summer wedding. Instead it’s an anniversary of healing. You see Rod Wilkin is celebrating the 40th anniversary of being told he had 30 days to live. That’s right 40 years ago he went to the doctor to get a mole on his back checked out and was diagnosed with  stage 4 malignant melanoma skin cancer.

At the age of 27, Rod said he didn’t have time for that so he asked the doctor, “What can I do?”

“Go home and pray,” the doctor replied.

“I don’t know much about that,” said Rod.

Fortunately, the doctor armed him with scripture.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” -Philippians 4:6-9

Rod went home that Wednesday night, read the Bible and prayed. At 3:00 am in the morning (that’s the fourth watch when Jesus often prayed), he awoke experiencing alternating hot and cold flashes. After about three minutes, he felt a peace and went back to sleep.

The next day his doctor told him to report to the hospital on Sunday to prepare for a surgery to have lymph nodes removed. Rod informed the doctor that God had touched him in the middle of the night and that he was healed. Unconvinced, the doctor told him that in stage 4, lymph nodes were sure to be affected and because cancer has a way of working on people’s heads, he encouraged him to have the surgery.

Rod agreed and during the surgery, 56 lymph nodes were removed and it was later determined that 56 were all clear. Praise the Lord! The following Sunday, against the nurse’s wishes, Rod left the hospital with tubes protruding from his body and rolled up under his arm, to go to church. He never took chemotherapy or radiation.

Some people believe that the spiritual gift of healing ceased a long time ago, but don’t try telling that to Rod. He is a walking testimony of the supernatural power of God.

When you find yourself in a desperate situation, you can turn to the Lord as others have done.

Lord, help!” they cried in their trouble, and He saved them from their distress.  He sent out His Word and healed them, snatching them from the door of death.  -Psalm 107:19-20

Several years ago Rod’s friend was told that the main artery to his brain was 97% blocked and he should get his affairs in order. In an attempt to get help for his friend, Rod invited a healing minister to his home to pray for him. That night twelve people attended, and his friend was healed. Knowing that “God doesn’t just heal you to heal you, but that He heals you to use you,” Rod knew he had to go and tell, so he founded Tuscaloosa Fellowship Ministries

Fast forward to today. He and his wife Susan still host ministry meetings. They welcome people into their home to experience the presence and power of God, and over the years, they’ve seen many people healed. As President and CEO of Taco Casa, Rod is most passionate about Jesus.

As you read this post, please give God a shout of thanks for this 40th Anniversary. Join this celebration of life, realizing that God shows no favoritism. What He does for one, He can do for you. Now come on. Let’s celebrate.

Celebrate Jesus, Celebrate!
