Right in front of you is a banquet table heaped with the most palate-pleasing foods you’ve ever seen. You’re famished but decide, instead of devouring the delectable feast, to nibble a few morsels here and there, experiencing just a sampling of all of the wonderful goodness. Surely this spread wasn’t prepared just for you. Who would go to all that trouble?
When Elisha asked the widow, “What do you have in your house?” she replied, “Your servant has nothing there at all.” (2 Kings 4) He wanted her, with faith, to see beyond the present circumstances to God’s blessings and provision.
I hate to admit it, but far too often I have settled for what I thought I deserved instead of opening my eyes of faith to claim the “more” that God offers.
If God wills that we should be prosperous — and He does — shouldn’t we also?
