Word & Worship – Scars

Today we take time to reflect on a precious verse and a beautiful song.   We call it Word & Worship.

Our trials develop our testimony.

“This letter is from Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ. I am writing to God’s chosen people who are living as foreigners in the provinces of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia.

So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while.” 1 Peter‬ ‭1:1, 6‬ ‭NLT‬‬

SCARS. We all have them; both physical and emotional. They’re a reminder of the experiences of the initial wounds that caused them. The ones that are permanently engrained in our minds and have played a vital role in our character development. We can let them haunt us, or empower us.

The unanswered prayers, the life-altering diagnosis or event, the unexpected difficult circumstances, the death of a loved one or a dream, the words of hate and hurt spoken to and over us, and everything else that leaves a mark; it all has the incredible ability to transform us. One way or another.

If it weren’t for the trials we walk through, that leave these scars, our faith would never be tested or challenged to grow; nor would we have the opportunity to see God work in our lives. Without the trials, we wouldn’t need Him or get to feel His deep love for us, drawing us into intimate relationship with Him….and more than that, we wouldn’t get to experience His greater plan for us. The one His Word promises.

Without life’s pain, we’d never experience God’s power.

The scars serve as a testimony of strength and faith in what God brought us through, that will minister to the hearts of others.

Friends, we challenge you today, as you join us for worship, to thank God for your scars. The ones that crushed your plans, so you could experience His better plan. Take a moment to look back and see how intentionally He used your pain to bring you to a place of joy and purpose. Let them serve as a beautiful reminder of His unfailing love! Blessings on you today.

Waking up to a new sunrise

Looking back from the other side

I can see now with open eyes

Darkest water and deepest pain

I wouldn’t trade it for anything

Cause my brokenness brought me to You

And these wounds are a story You’ll use

So I’m thankful for the scars

‘Cause without them I wouldn’t know Your heart

And I know they’ll always tell of who You are

So forever I am thankful for the scars
