“I have a passion for travel!”
“My passion is cooking!”
“I’m passionate about my children!”
None of us would equate these passions with suffering, though the original definition of the word meant just that. We may suffer jet lag, extra pounds, or sleepless nights walking babies, but there is no eternal significance in temporal passions. They are merely human desires.
The passion Christ has for us is beyond what we experience. He lived His passion — love for the lost — and suffered the bitter journey through hell to make eternal life available to us.
His life, His purpose, His never-ending love for us … His passion.
But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. Isaiah 53:5
