And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. (James 1:4 ESV)
Why is it important to persevere?
Perseverance is having steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty and delay in achieving success.
As a believer, perseverance is necessary and helps to strengthen our faith during difficult times or situations. You and I are on a faith journey. This journey requires us to trust God through the leading of His Holy Spirit so that we can receive His promises in our lives.Imagine an athlete that is competing for a crown or championship. The athlete must train his or her body to endure physical tests, strong competition, and persevere in order to become victorious. Similarly, you and I are part of the Body of Christ. God allows us to be tested to become mature. Maturity is a process. The process works into us, God’s virtues and out of us our vices.
When we allow God’s Word to grow in our lives and we decide to persevere, then our vices no longer keep us in bondage. We experience freedom!
His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. – NIV2 Peter 1:4-8
Yes, perseverance helps us to grow God’s character and experience an enriched spiritual life.
Remember: Faith + Perseverance = CHANGE + FREEDOM
What do you believe God will do for you because of your perseverance?
