I Am Light

A friend and I reconnected recently. She stopped by for a quick visit and to drop off a meal. Of course, we had to talk because that’s what we do.

We’re women. After sharing what’s going on with us, we usually end up encouraging one another. In the midst of our chat she said, “Oh, you’re preaching now.”  That’s just one fun way of us saying to the other that we just shared something that touched us in a God kind of way, some small piece of revelation that gives us strength as we continue to walk out the path that God has laid before us.

You might find it a little hard to believe that God could speak through you, that is, use your voice to deliver a message that He wants the other person to hear.

There was a time when I wondered about that myself. I took a class in the prophetic that opened my eyes more to how God can use prophets and even those of us who don’t operate in an official capacity to bring light to a person’s situation. I have been on the receiving end of some prophetic messages that brought light to me. Knowing that God cared enough to share a piece of information with someone I did not know in order for them to get a message from Him to me in my opinion is a priceless expression of His love. Learning to walk in the prophetic can be somewhat of a trial-and-error process. Only because we are not perfect, and we don’t always hear God with clarity. But as we continue to step out and try, like anything else, we get better at it.

“For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light.”  – Ephesians 5:8

Because we have the Holy Spirit inspiring us, it should not be a surprise when He causes us to do or say something that blesses another person, even when we haven’t planned it. “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

I am a person who has always been very comfortable working in the background. I actually prefer to do so. As time passes, I sense that God is calling me to follow Him into the limelight. I am not certain of what that means exactly, but I am pretty sure it means leaving my comfort zone.

God says to let your light shine before others so that they may see your good deeds and glorify Him. So that moves it from what I want and choose to do to what is God asking me to do. I am not sure about a lot of things in life, but I am sure about God, and that is what matters the most.

Regardless of where your journey of life takes you, realize that you are light. As you go about your days, make your prayer that your light will shine and brighten someone else’s day.

Because you are what God says that you are!  You are enough!
