I am so thankful that I can say I am Redeemed! It has not always been easy for me to say. I used to believe I was never good enough to be redeemed by God. I believed that my past mistakes defined who I was and that I could never be accepted by God. I would try to do as many good works as I could to make up for my mistakes. If it wasn’t the past mistakes, it would be current trials of my life that would feed my doubt. I would ask why God would redeem someone like me. The enemy had me right where he wanted me.
We all have sin and fallen short – Romans 3:23. The world has many of us thinking that we need to be perfect in order to be redeemed. Jesus never said that we have to be perfect to be redeemed.. In fact, Matthew 9:13 Jesus tells us that he did not come to call the righteous, but sinners. If Jesus came looking for a perfect person in this world, he wouldn’t find one. As it written, there is none righteous no not one – Romans 3:10.
Have you ever looked at the Hall of Faith in Hebrews 11? The Hall of Faith tells us about some famous people in the Bible who are considered faith heroes. However, when you look at the Hall of Faith, you see men and women who did not always get it right. Let’s take a look at a few:
- King David committed adultery and murder. 1 Samuel 16 & 17
- Rahab was a prostitute. Joshua 2:1-3, 6:21-25
- Saul (Paul) persecuted Christians. Acts 9
However, they did not let their sin defined them. They did not stay where they were. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness – 1 John 1:9. Nothing is bigger than our God!
So friends, I am here to let you know that you are redeemable for good works for God. Don’t let the chains of your past weigh you down. Remove the shackles that are binding you up. Repent, and turn to God so your sin may be wiped out – Acts 3:19. Our father will not hold a grudge. Our God is gracious and compassionate. He will not turn his face from us if we return to him – 2 Chronicles 30:9. The price to redeem you and me was paid when Jesus died on the cross. His blood forgives us of our sins. There is no work we can do to earn his forgiveness. The son has set us free of our past! And who the son has set free is free indeed! I am redeemed and so are you!
Because you are what God says that you are! You are enough!
