Nothing Can Separate

I was raised by a single mom who loved her four children unconditionally. My mom always had us involved in church, from Red Circles every Tuesday too Sunday School on Sunday mornings. So it is easy for me to say I was raised in church; however, I did not know what it meant to be a daughter of the king. It was not until I joined Church of the Highlands, that I realized my Father God wanted a personal relationship with me despite my many faults. And there was nothing I could do to win his love because Jesus already loved me!

After high school, I had my mind set on going away to school. However, God had different plans for me. My Granny asked me to stay home to help take care of my mom who was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in my early teen years. By the time I graduated high school, she had little to no feeling in her lower extremities and was legally blind. Being a care taker for my mom was not easy. My Granny was my lifeline during this time. My granny exhibit God’s love everyday by sacrificially taking care of us-my mom, me, and my brother- daily. I consider it a blessing that I was able to walk through this season with my grandma and that I was able to help take care of my mom.

I attended our local community college before transferring to the University of Alabama. Between being a caretaker for my mom and attending classes, college was rough; but I know now it was all God that I made it through. It was in the cafeteria of Mary Burke, where my mom used to work, that I met my future husband.

I have been married to my college sweetheart, Kevin, for 18 years. God has granted us the honor and privileged to parent one beautiful daughter, Jasmyn. We are a happy family of three who loves to eat, watch movies, and travel. I am so grateful that I get to walk through this season in life with them. They are my heart!

I have been a member of Church of the Highlands since 2011. It has been life giving and life changing for me. Understanding God’s unconditional love for me has impacted my world in ways I would not have expected. God has used me to demonstrate His love through faciltating small groups for women.

I want to make sure when I leave this world that I have told as many as possible about God’s unchanging love for them.

Romans 8:39, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord, is a verse I think we should all know.

This verse was life changing for me as a woman because of the insecurities of feeling unloved and invaluable.

God’s love is the cure for everything we may face.

My goal every day is to make sure my actions reflect God’s Love! I am his vessel. – Tomeka Jones

  1. Thanks Sheree. I am just amazed every time God decides to use me. Not only did he choose me, he equips me with everything that I lack. I love that I get to take this journey with other amazing encouraging women of God.
