Hello friends! My name is Amber Edwards and I am so thankful the Lord is allowing me to connect with each of you through this amazing blog. I’d love to share a little about me and welcome stories about you as well!
I was born in Ft. Walton, Florida; however, my parents divorced when I was just a toddler and my mom relocated to Birmingham, Alabama. We made a home in the Huffman area, where I attended school and was a member of the local Baptist church. After high school, I received my Legal Assistant certificate from Samford University and shortly thereafter went to work for a law firm. I married at the young age of 20 and a few years later God gave me my two greatest blessings … my beautiful daughter, Shelby (19) and my handsome son, Zac (17). After 16 years of marriage, I found myself going through a devastating divorce where, for the first time in my life, I was alone and solely responsible for myself and my two children. Through lots of prayer, time in the word, trust in the Lord and the healing power of a loving heavenly Father, I learned to find joy in the midst of heartbreaking circumstances. God healed my broken heart and brought me to a place where I was truly happy again and enjoying my little family of three.
God’s timing is always perfect! In mid-January 2011, he brought an amazing man into my life. As Michael and I got to know each other, we quickly learned that not only did we live in the same city only a few miles apart, but I had taught his niece in Sunday school years prior. God is so good! I married my true love and best friend in October of that year at a beautiful beach wedding complete with dolphins swimming in the background and a rainbow illuminating the sky. Yes, I know that sounds completely made up or fairytale(ish), but it really happened … it was a perfect day!
Months later, as I looked at our wedding photos, I realized that rainbow was NO coincidence! It was a sign of God’s blessing on our marriage and His promise to always send a rainbow after the storm! Michael and I have been married six years and he has become an amazing father to my children, who he proudly claims as his very own. There is so much love in our home and more happiness than I ever imagined possible!
Out of the pain of my past and the financial struggles I encountered both throughout my first marriage and as a single mom, the Lord spoke to me about ministering to those hurting and/or less fortunate. In 2012, our family started a homeless outreach project providing bags of blessings to those living on the streets in and around the Birmingham area. The project has grown and we are still passionate about it today.
Toward the end of last year, I felt the Lord speaking to me about using my gift of writing to be a light and, hopefully, provide encouragement to other women. I began thinking about, praying about and researching how to start a blog when I happened to run into a precious friend at church. As we chatted, she told me, completely out of the blue, that she had started writing with a group of bloggers and invited me to guest write. The blog? Breath on Paper. Once again, God showed up and opened a door! I started writing with Breath the beginning of this year (2017) and absolutely adore the other writers and am constantly amazed by their talents and encouraged by their love for the Lord, for our group and for me.
My family and I attend Church of the Highlands in Birmingham, Alabama, where we are honored to serve the Lord as part of the Dream Team. In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with my family, traveling, entertaining, writing, crafting, encouraging others and volunteering/serving my church and community.
One of my favorite verses is Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT), “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”
There’s NEVER been a time when I’ve truly put my trust in Him that He’s not shown up BIG! I am beyond blessed to be a wife, mother, leader, friend, mentor and daughter of the King saved by grace!
