I Thoroughly Enjoy Cooking

I thoroughly enjoy cooking for and entertaining others. Tell me what you like, and I’ll whip up a reasonable facsimile, crack open a bottle of wine, and swap stories with you.

Breath on Paper is taking the next two weeks to share 30 Things About Me…. things that you may or may not know about us.  We are uniquely and wonderfully made by a God who loves variety.  You will get a glimpse of our personalities in this peek behind the curtains of Breath. Enjoy!30 Things about Pam Weyant - Breath on Paper Blog
Are there any on the list that you can relate to?  Let us know in the comments below.
  1. I grew up on the Sisseton-Whapeton Sioux Tribe reservation in northeastern South Dakota during the days of Dennis Means, Russell Banks, and the American Indian Movement (AIM). Contrary to popular belief, as I am usually asked, the landscape was not dotted with teepees and sod houses in the Dakotas in the 1960s.
  2. I believe home is not a physical location but a place where you know your heart belongs, and that can change. I have been at “home” several places in my lifetime … South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Alabama …
  3. Consequently, since Minnesota was my “home” for a time, I bleed purple for the Purple People Eaters — the Minnesota Vikings!! There will NEVER be another football team for me, college or pro, that unseats them. SKOL Vikings!!
  4. When I was a young girl I wanted to be a teacher when I grew up and have a house full of children, neither of which happened. (The no children “thing” … one of the biggest regrets of my life.)
  5. I am the textbook definition of a middle child. Sandwiched in between an older sister and younger brother, I always seek fairness, common ground, and want everyone to be happy.
  6. AS a child, I would purposely plant my feet in ooey, squishy mud, feeling the suctioning force against me when I tried to pull them out. I would still do it today if no one was looking. 🙂

  7. When I was three years old, I broke my arm playing out in the yard with my sister. She fell on me, but the story goes that I told people I fell off the house. That was the beginning of my lying career. (No need to worry — that career never took off.)
  8. When my brother and I were playing darts outdoors when we were kids, one of my darts MAY have found its way into my brother’s leg. What can I say??? It was a windy day!
  9. I am REALLY good at tongue twisters. Just ask me about Biddy Botter and her bum butter.
  10. I didn’t need to be persuaded, as a child, to eat liver. I prefer mine with mustard and onions, thank you.
  11. Watermelon quickly went on my “favorite foods” list as well. Don’t judge me, but I can eat the whole thing by myself in less than 48 hours.
  12. I can touch my nose with my tongue. I can also touch my nose to my knees, thanks to yoga.
  13. Speaking of yoga, I love to work out — weightlifting, cycling, swimming, yoga — and I achieved a new personal best in holding a plank a couple of weeks ago: 17 minutes, 38 seconds. Yes, I’m proud. 🙂
  14. If you really know me, you know my nickname is “Cakes,” as in pamcakes … pancakes … You get it.
  15. I can’t focus if my bed is unmade, my home is messy, or my desk is cluttered. If those aren’t remedied, I will have an unproductive day. (I am well aware there is a clinical diagnosis for that type of behavior.)
  16. Speaking of diagnoses … when I am having a bad day or feel defeated, I remind myself that today is only 24 hours long and tomorrow I will have a different perspective.
  17. I’ve worked my fingers to the bone as a court reporter for 36 years — literally! I have several joints in my fingers that have NO cartilage. And, yes, it’s painful.
  18. When people say, “Do you know who you look like?” most often I hear, “Meryl Streep.” My hope is they know she is MUCH older than me.
  19. My competitive streak runs a mile wide. Whether playing a game of Aggravation (don’t mess with me on that game!) or in a swim lane next to someone (they don’t know I’m racing them :0) I live and breathe for a good challenge.
  20. I am very afraid of heights, so much so that when looking over a ledge and down, I need to hang onto something stationary and there might be some form of audible utterance that escapes my mouth.
  21. Flying, on the other hand, doesn’t bother me in the least, and I LOVE TO TRAVEL!! I do not understand, for the life of me, how others confine themselves to a 500-mile radius of “home” their entire lives.

Me, the professionals, and the cannon bobsled
  22. I have an adventurous, almost rebellious, streak that runs even wider than my competitive streak. Ticking an item off my bucket list last year, I was a human pinball rode an Olympic bobsled at the Olympic Village in Utah.
  23. Recalling the terror sheer joy of my bobsled ride reminds me that I am a sympathetic puker. If you throw up, I’m going to throw up. That’s a bit graphic and unladylike, but you know what I’m talking about, right?
  24. That said … I believe a confident woman is not afraid to make mistakes. Which means I am extremely overconfident. :0
  25. I thoroughly enjoy cooking for and entertaining others. Tell me what you like, and I’ll whip up a reasonable facsimile, crack open a bottle of wine, and swap stories with you.
  26. BUT … I relish occasions when I can try new restaurants, especially locally-owned establishments known for their “signature” dish.
  27. My Strengths, according to StrengthsFinder, are (in order) Responsibility, Input, Belief, Deliberative, and Empathy … which, boiled down, may be interpreted as I am (in order) a diligent being who loves to collect information, and you will never sway me from my opinion because it took me too much time to decide what I thought even though I do care about what you think and feel.
  28. I’ve sat at the bedside of three significant people in my life and watched them take their last breaths. I never want to experience anguish of that depth again … ever.
  29. I still say my bedtime prayers every night.
  30. Because there is so much in this life that I will never understand, Proverbs 3:5 is my favorite Bible verse. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.
