Don’t Forget To Count Yourself

Next time you think of worthy, don’t forget to count yourself!

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!  1 John 3:1

Lavished! means to bestow something in generous or extravagant quantities upon.

Not halfway! Not just a little!  But extravagantly!!! That’s God’s love for us!!!

That’s what YOU are!

Loved! Forgiven! Redeemed! Restored! Worthy!

Saturday was the annual Serve Day at our church. Each year we find a need and fill it in an effort to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Back-to-school supplies for single moms through a friend who leads single mom small groups was what Breath on Paper “served.”

Buy school supplies or pay the light bill?

Single moms often have to make that very choice.  Put Alabama Power off this month in hopes that they won’t turn the electricity off before payday just so her children can have the supplies that every other child has the day school starts.

There is no place on earth so tender, yet so vicious as a mama’s heart.  Those protective instincts can go into overdrive when need calls. Protect and provide at all costs. Period.  Sometimes that’s what it looks like when you go it alone.

But what about her heart? What about her needs? Who protects her?  Who looks out for her best interests?

How we see ourselves is too often how we are perceived by others. When we see ourselves as unworthy because of our mistakes or simply because of things that just happened, we assume a posture of unworthy. And when others see that unworthy posture, they wrongfully join in. We’ve all seen it. We’ve all experienced it to some extent.

Is it right? Not by any stretch of the imagination. But what if…

What if we saw people the way Jesus sees them?  What if that was our prayer every day?  Lord, give me eyes to see people the way you see them.

What if we see ourselves the way Jesus sees us? He loved us enough to die for us so that we wouldn’t have to pay for our sins. Jesus is worthy.  And He loves us with a lavish love.

And that’s what we are!

When I think of the love these single moms have for their babies, when I see the extent they are willing to go, all because they love their children, it reminds me of how much more God loves us.

He looked down through history and saw your heart. He saw someone who is worth the blood of His only son.

He saw You.   Exactly like you are!

Your worth is measured in blood. Jesus’ blood. It’s not one drop of blood for you and one for me and one for your sister. Every drop of the blood Jesus shed was for you. All of it. Even though one drop would have been enough to cleanse you of all of your sin, because Jesus thought then and today that you are worth it!

Let’s be thankful that He sees us as worthy.

Let’s see others the same.
