Breath on Paper small group is taking a break between semesters. We’ll be back June 12th.
As the hot summer heat blazes down in Alabama I am especially thankful for Willis Carrier. Who in 1902 stared through the foggy mist on a train platform and realized that he could dry air by passing it through water to create fog. This one bit of knowledge enabled him to complete his invention to control humidity that would be the building block for modern air conditioning. This kind of knowledge comes from inside our minds and is known as human reason. It is a gift from God that we all have and share.
The word of knowledge is another kind of knowledge that is a gift given by the Holy Spirit as He so chooses. This knowledge does not have anything to do with our God given intellect and abilities. So then what exactly is it? Jesus gives us a glimpse when He said,
“But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you. All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you.” John 16:13-15
In essence the word of knowledge is a revelation given to us by the Holy Spirit that reveals the thoughts of Christ in any situation or circumstance. It could be something in His Word. Something about a person you are praying for. The list could go on and on because Jesus knows everything!
Every August my church sets aside 21 days to pray. Thousands of us have been meeting at 6 AM to hear a short message from one of the Pastors, worship and pray. There are thousands of prayer cards with needs written on them. Out of all the 21 days of prayer I have been to I have never been so overwhelmed with all the needs of people. I felt so small in comparison to how big the needs were. I will confess some mornings doubt would come in and tell me that my prayers were not making a difference at all.
No one knew the doubts I was having, but God knew. Twice during 21 days of prayer I believe the Holy Spirit spoke a word of knowledge through a Pastor and a prayer card to encourage me and to let me know that my prayers were making a difference.
Every prayer card I have ever read has always had needs written on them, until I read this prayer card. It so encouraged me. To all the Prayer Warriors out there may these words encourage you as well.
Dear Prayer Warrior,
Be blessed knowing God sees and hears you. He watches over you. He’s lifting you up in the heavenlies to be victorious and blessed on earth. Don’t give up. He loves you.
Pastor Layne said, “Prayer is doing more than you think because God is doing more than you can see.”
“Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.” Ephesians 3:20
