God’s Got You Covered

Breath on Paper small group is taking a break between semesters.  For the next few weeks we are taking advantage of this time off, we hope you enjoy revisiting our favorites.  We will return June 12th.

When baby swans get tired from splashing around in the water they will climb up on their mama’s back and she will tuck them all in and cover them with her wings for the glide back to her nest. Swans are the most feathered bird out of all of God’s creation. To understand how feathered, when you compare our typical backyard birds who have 1,500 to 3,000 feathers, the swan can have more than 25,000. They have stiff contour feathers that keep them waterproof. Soft and fluffy down feathers to keep them warm. Semiplume feathers, which are a combination of contour and down feathers, that further insulate and give the swan it’s shape.

imageThis mama swan pictured has 6 babies, but she has them so sheltered with her wings you can’t see them all. This is a beautiful picture of Psalm 91:4. It speaks to me of the tenderness and comfort of God and how He has made a place of shelter for us with Him. Under His wings we are safely covered in Him.

imageWhen Elijah was fearful and running for his life in 1 Kings 19:4, “He came to a broom tree, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough LORD,” he said. “Take my life.” What did God do for Elijah? Did he leave him alone in his depression? He lifted him up and put him under His wing, and He fed him and let him sleep in the downy bed of His tenderness. What God did for Elijah He does for us today.

“How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Your wings.” Psalm 36:7

All of us have been fearful at one time or another. The question is what do you do with your fear? Do you let it define and control you or do you trust that, “His faithful promises are your armor and protection.”

When I stay anchored in His Word I am protected in Him and I can face my fears, but when I let go of God and try to work out my problems on my own that is when I start to drift away. This sets me up for the enemy to come in and speak lies to me and cause me to fear even more than I did to begin with. Holding onto His truth is my only hope.

His Word is our strength and His promises are the only thing that we can stand on when we are faced with things that turn our world upside down.

When I am fearful I read Psalm 91. It’s a beautiful picture of God’s love and protection.

God’s got you covered in this Psalm for whatever you are facing.

The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name. When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them.” Psalm 91:14-15

When you are troubled with things that are so uncertain it would be easy to allow fear to overtake you, but this is a promise from God you can stand on.
