Today we welcome Lauren Cruise to Guest Writer Week at Breath on Paper.
There’s something so beautiful about speaking to God as though He’s our only friend; being totally abandoned to Him; separating ourselves from the world and being solely devoted to Him. Inviting Him into every area of our lives, every second of the day.
Right now, I’m in a season of constantly having to remind myself that God always has my best in mind. Recently, I came across a verse that says,
“In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.” Psalm 5:3
When I saw this I thought, “This has to be God reminding me that He sees me, He hears me, and that He wants me to trust that the things that I’m praying for ,will come at the right time.” God is my one faithful friend; the One who always looks out for me.
As I sink into Gods presence each day, it’s like I’m in an empty room, sitting and drinking coffee with Jesus. He speaks to me things about my day, my future, and words for other people. He expands my growth in Him. Being still in the presence of The Lord is something I value each day. If I don’t take time to be still, I see a difference in the way I feel throughout the day. It’s like someone who has diabetes; they have a certain schedule of when they have to eat and how much sugar they intake or else they start to feel “off”. They depend on this strict diet to keep them going. It’s a matter of life or death for them. In a similar way, I am realizing that unlike anything else, God is what keeps me going.
Today, as I was praying for my day, I felt like God told me wake up early and go to Starbucks to work on some writing. When you invite God into your day, He’ll tell you exactly what you need to do, to be productive. Try it. I dare you. One thing God has spoken, two things I have heard:
“Power belongs to you, God,” Psalm 62:11
When I speak to God about my future, He doesn’t tell me things just about myself, He tells me things about the world’s future also. I was praying over our world today, and in my mind I saw a picture of a waterfall. People were going through it and were being made new. The Biblical meaning of a waterfall is “a continuous amount of grace”. Water does not only mean grace , it also means provision. When you think of waterfalls and what they do for our community, you think of provision for our plants and trees. They constantly water the things around them. We are God’s plants, in a way. God is going to constantly water provision over our lives if we receive His reign.
My Pastor, Steven Furtick says, “God will come into your situation, if you invite him.” Our job as Christians is to invite Him into our world. God wants to provide grace for us, money for our world to help the poor, and leaders to lead people to Christ. But the only way we can see that harvest is by inviting God into our lives and our world. We are God’s people. We can make a difference.
Have you ever walked into a room and felt God’s presence so strongly that you immediately felt a word for someone? Well, that’s how I felt last week at my small group. I felt like God was speaking a prophetic word to me about a girl in my group to encourage her. As I spoke the words God was giving me, I could see chains breaking off of her heart and encouragement fill her eyes. It was such a powerful moment. When you take time to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit, chains break and lives change.
“He brought them out of darkness, the utter darkness, and broke away their chains.” Psalm 107:14
God loves us. He knows how to meet us right where we are at. Whether we need grace for a situation, provision, rest, refreshment, breakthrough…He is our friend, and He will meet our need. – Lauren
