Greater is He, Don’t Look Back

1 John 4:4 ….“Greater is HE who is in you (ME) than he is of this world.”

HE is Jesus! Messiah!
HE is Jehovah Nissi! Victorious!
HE is Jehovah Shammah! There!
HE is Freedom! Blood of The Lamb!

“But He was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.” Isaiah 53:5

In Genesis 19… Lot, his daughters, and his wife were pardoned by God and guided by The Lord’s angel to escape the destruction of their “sin city”, Sodom.  Satan had engulfed the entire city, their homes, their hearts, and their minds to a point of no remorse and a complete numbness of the heart and soul. God’s people had become bottomless pits of excessive lust as blinded gluttons.  Sin is a collision of our will against the will of God….a very bold statement and a very scary action!

“Fear the LORD, you his godly people, for those who fear him WILL HAVE ALL they need and want.”  Psalm 34:9

It is our sin nature and the LOVE OF IT that destroys our lives and motivates restless hearts.  If left unguarded, the seductive whispers of satan become louder voices of deception…..MORE, MORE, MORE!  Deaf ears will hear ….more passion, more money, more possessions, more beauty, more power, more success, more pleasure…MORE!  Satan tempts us with skewed visions of reality and promises things that he will NOT deliver! There maybe a temporary high from his supply, but NO lasting Peace!

Jesus said, “I am leaving you with a gift-a peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift THE WORLD CANNOT GIVE.  John 14:27

Sin creates an insatiable hunger that is led by hostile cravings for MORE!   That hunger is a spiritual soul hunger…a deep and painful grumbling.  That hunger pang can only be satisfied by The Holy Spirit who feeds us an intoxicating delicacy of strength and self control!

“When they (Lot and his family) were leaving the city, one of the angels ordered, “Run for your lives! And DON’T LOOK BACK or stop anywhere in the valley!  Genesis 19:17

Lot’s wife disobeyed the angel by “looking back” longing for her worldly possessions and secret sin pleasures that she had to leave behind in the escape.  Even just glancing back, her actions proved she had given her heart to the world and loved her “sin city” more than she loved her God.   She was warned of the consequences, but chose a salty death.

Her reaction to second guess where she was being led (stripped of possessions) and her deceitful heart’s longing for the old excessive life,  spoke to me as a familiar scenario in my own spiritual efforts as I am led into unknown territory.  I have felt that ferocious internal pull of the heart to return or “to look back”.  But Jesus assures me through His written word…”Not by might or power but by MY SPIRIT!” Let GO and DON’T LOOK BACK !

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11

All I can do in the moment of my temptation is to turn my eyes to Jesus and while doing that I can’t “look back”!  Jesus warned “There will be troubles, but take heart for I have OVERCOME THE WORLD!

“The LORD himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.”   Exodus 14:14  AMEN

When we have lived, loved, and been comforted for a long time by our sins (the old self) it will be challengeing and it takes courage not to be moved emotionally in the wrong direction! It’s a test of genuine faith and it requires a trusting and a committed heart that loves Jesus MORE than anything else!

“He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” ….these words are trustworthy and true.”  Revelations 21:5

Once we SEE and understand the love Jesus showed us by die-ing on the brutal cross, it is much easier to comply in obedience and to keep moving forward surrendering to the process of a NEW self and a NEW life!
