What type of knowledge do you possess? What do you feel is your area of expertise? Do you enjoy working with people, numbers or the inner working of how things tick, etc? How did you develop this knowledge? Did you spend countless hours sitting in a classroom with your head in a book?
What if I told you that there was a form of knowledge that cannot be obtained by the normal methods of research and learning? It is a spiritual knowledge found in Corinthians l2:8. It is given to us by God through the Holy Spirit to edify, encourage and comfort those in need.
Bishop B. E. Underwood says: “…there is a genuine word of knowledge in which God, in His divine grace and graciousness, manifests Himself by giving facts or information that could not be known except by a supernatural manifestation of the Spirit.”
Below is an excerpt from my journal regarding an experience I’d like to share with you regarding a “word” that was spoken to me.
June 3, 2014 9:30AM
Before I go, I must thank you for the “banner” in the sky. Today at the office I was on the phone with Renee from customer service. She was the icing on the cake and I told her that. I called for claim information and I got something far better than that. I don’t know her nor have seen her, but after a few moments into our conversation she said she had a “word” from God for me. I’m paraphrasing. She told me that I won’t be at 2 jobs forever and He is working it out in ways that I won’t expect. That got my attention. Just when I thought you had forgotten me-you speak to me through someone else. What a great surprise for the day! I’m so excited to see what each new day brings. Instead of over-thinking everything, I’m just going with it. You know which job I need and which situation in my life needs your touch. There are so many possibilities.
When someone tells you they have a “word” from God-you listen. Leave the details to God. She also said to let go and not worry so I can hear from you. I told Renee I would pray for her. Thank you for my new sister in Christ and for giving me HOPE. Amen.
This was at a time when I desperately needed to hear from God. I was struggling and overwhelmed with life’s demands that it became too much. I felt forgotten and alone. I’m grateful to Renee in her obedience to God for sharing a word into my situation. Her “words” gave me the “spiritual lift-me up” I so needed to hear and gave me the hope I thought was lost.
One of my favorite verses, Hebrews 6:19 says: We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. There is always hope. When there is nothing else-there is hope. Each new day brings a new beginning and I’m excited at the things God is doing on my behalf. –Tonya
