Jesus Said It

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek himHebrews 11:6 (KJV)

The eleventh chapter of Hebrews is all about faith. It begins:  Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Then it goes on to list all these giants of faith, like a whose who of the Old Testement. Every few verses start with: By faith Able, By faith Enoch, By faith Noah, By faith Abraham, By faith Sarah, and on and on; listing these great people who had great faith to believe what God said.  Even if they didn’t see it come to pass in their own lifetime, they still believed God over their circumstances.

I grew up the oldest of three little girls.  We were stair steps with less than two years between each of us. I loved having sisters close to my age and I loved being the oldest. When we were in middle school our church hosted a revival that took place out on the football field every night for a week. Our church had an evangelist and his team to come minister/preach for the week.  It was a big deal for our little town. People came from miles around and I remember a big alter call every night with many people walking out on the field at the end to give their life to Jesus.  Lives were changed.

The biggest thing I remember about this extra special week, besides all the salvation, was that the worship leader had three daughters too. These adorable sisters were stair stepped just like we were. But these sisters sang in front of everyone, every night of the revival. They were heavenly and a huge hit as they belted out their songs up on stage out under the lights of that football field.

They sang a song that everyone loved and repeated it a couple of times by popular demand.  I learned it and still today it occasionally bubbles up in my thoughts.  It goes like this:

If Jesus said it, I believe it.
His Word cannot lie.
If it’s written in The Bible, I’ll believe it ’till I die.
Though the mountains be removed and cast into the sea,
God’s Word will last forever,
Through out eternity.
I can hear it to this day and I love to snap my fingers, tap my foot and sing this little song about faith.

I learned a great lesson through memorizing and singing that little song. It’s simple. I don’t have to doubt or waiver. Jesus said it. It’s written in The Bible. I only need to believe it.  Period.

That night on the way home, my Daddy talked to me and my sisters about having faith. He told us that Gods Word is more real than what we see or don’t see. He reminded us of the story of Abraham. Ole Abraham never saw all the promises God made to him.  But they still came to pass… because God said it. Abraham saw some of them happen from his seat in heaven.  What a reward for believing what God told him.

A big chunk of the eleventh chapter of Hebrews, the chapter on the heroes of faith, is dedicated to Abraham.  God’s Word WILL last forever.

Did I receive the gift of faith that night out on that football field when many others received salvation?  Maybe so.   But I believe that we can have ALL the spiritual gifts if we ask…just like salvation.  I had to grow in my gifts. Just like I’ve grown in faith. Time and time again I have come to a crossroad in my life and I had a choice to believe The Bible and what God said or I could run on through the intersection and try to do it on my own.

It’s a choice.  It’s something we choose by simply reading Gods Word so we know what to believe.

Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by The Word of God. Romans 10:17.jesussaid-1

You get out what you put in.  Find a few verses on faith and commit it to memory. When you come to the next ‘Y’ in the road, choose to believe those verses

If Jesus said it, I believe it.
His Word cannot lie.
If it’s written in The Bible, I’ll believe it ’till I die.
Though the mountains be removed and cast into the sea,
God’s Word will last forever,
Through out eternity.
