Are You Willing?

choose Jesus imagesDeuteronomy 30:19 “Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!

In the book of Ruth, there is a character that barely exists in the story line known as “the kinsman redeemer”.  His title as “first kinsmen” gave him “first right of refusal”, by law, to make a choice  as to whether he would accept or deny the responsibilities of redeeming a situation.  These situations usually involved a combination of  wealth and possession delemas, land ownership, debt, marriage requirements, and broken families and people.  If the kinsman accepted the offer to redeem his new responsibilities would change and have an effect on his life forever.  Not only would it effect him but also the lives of those involved, his community, his wealth, his social status and ranking, his home life, and even the lives of the generations to come.   All because of a choice !

As I thought of the life altering choice in the story, I quickly saw the correlation of it with my own story/testimony.  I was offered a choice that would change my life forever…….the choice of salvation.  Are you willing?

Saved and born again just three and half years ago, my salvation experience is one I will never forget…a powerful life altering choice moment.  As I sat nervously across the table from my friend who would lead me to Jesus, I could feel the darkness closing in and my eyes were blurred from the salty tears….. FEARFUL!

1 John 4:18  Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love.

My friend passionatly asked me:

  • Would I accept Jesus into my heart to change me forever?
  • Would I allow Jesus to war for me, save me, redeem me, and rescue me from sin and darkness of this world?
  •  BETH, are YOU willing to surrender your life to Jesus….to give it all up, to die to self, to let go of all control, and to never be the same again.

And just like that,  I was in the role of the nearer kinsmen redeemer… given a life altering choice.    This choice was one that I didn’t see coming and one that I  knew nothing about.  Would I be vulnerable enough to be willing to jump into the unknown and hand over the keys to my self-made crumbling false kingdom?  It was a kingdom of worldly walls that I had built up over the course of my life to protect me and to find some sort of security and peace.  My unguarded kingdom of false hope and worldly nothing-ness was falling down faster than I could repair it.  I didn’t have the armor or the tools required to save it or to survive…. JESUS!

1 Peter 5:6,8    6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.  8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

If I chose to accept,  I would have to turn in my own keys and let go!  So, out of total desperation and a place of complete brokenness, I raised my white flag and surrendered with a “YES ” to Lord Jehovah Nissi! I immediatly felt the rush of the physical breathe of God filling my lungs and my bloody wounded heart began beating again….like a soldier found near death, rescued, and then living to tell about it! POWERFUL!

Breathless from the experience and staring across the table at my friend, I realized I had just been rescued by the instant love-light of Jesus that I had never known.  My own self-made kingdom had crumbled but Jesus helped me escape the ruble and handed me the key to His Kingdom instead. And, that is where my “Jesus Journey” began!

It’s a choice! Receive it! AMEN
