Give her the reward of her labor, and let her works praise her at the city gates. Proverbs 31:31
WOW! What a woman! She loves her people and her God. She stewards her resources (time, talent and treasure) wisely. She helps those in need. And her life speaks for itself. The P31 woman was not just receiving accolades and praise at the gates in her hometown, she was preparing to receive them at Heaven’s gates and there she would enjoy the results of her dedicated work.
The thing I desire most is to hear God say, “Well done, Andrea. You can live with me forever!” Until recently I didn’t really have
a thought about there being anything more. I would put on my white robe, get my harp and my cloud and start strumming and singing with the rest of Heavens angels. I should have known this was inaccurate. The God we serve knows that not everyone looks good in white!
I had always thought that ‘faithful over a few things, ruler over many’ was talking about earthly rewards. And I saw them as tangible things; houses, cars, titles. I even saw tithing as a way to be rewarded only on this side of Heaven. Theology was not my major in college, Finance was. So maybe that’s why rewards were seen as something that could be measured in dollars and cents.
Malachi 3:10 says, “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and test Me now in this,” says the LORD of hosts, “if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you a blessing until it overflows.” I know I have received blessings – tangible and otherwise – here on earth when I test this and lacked those blessings when I did not. But what I sow today will reap benefits both now and eternally, if I choose well.
Certainly, we have to remember our rewards are totally separate from our salvation. It is our belief that Jesus died for our sins and the personal relationship we have with Him that allows us access to eternity. Rewards happen after you make it in.
Here’s how I would like to see it played out for me. When I have done ALL that I was sent here to do, God would call me home, leaving my completely used up body right here.
Then God, who sometimes looks and sounds like Pearl Bailey to me, says, “Andrea LeNaye! Chile! You took your assignment on earth to heart and you did that thing just right. The work you did helping women live out the calling I gave them was simply astounding! I am especially fond of you! Look at all the fruit of your earthly labor. Come enjoy your eternal rest! Well done! Well done!”
This P31 woman, with her soul deep beauty and God-fearing ways, teaches me that my eternal rewards are determined by how well I complete my God-given assignments on earth. If we serve God well, like her, we will reap praise at Heaven’s gates and rest with the fruit of our labor.
And I am all about some Heavenly rest. Selah… Andrea
