The Proverbs 31 woman is definitely a planner who anticipates and meets all the needs of her household and wants the very best for them. When it snows she has no fear because all of her household are clothed in scarlet. She makes sure they are clothed with the warmest clothing possible for the cold winter.
When I read this verse I see so much more than a woman caring for the needs of her family. The snow and scarlet speak to me of Jesus. “Come now, let us reason together, says the LORD: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.” Isaiah 1:18 “And from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood.” Revelation 1:5
The word fear in this verse means, “To be afraid or feel anxious or apprehensive about a situation or event.” The Proverbs 31 woman has no fear of the cold winter because she has already planned and taken care of that fear by providing warm clothing for her family. But what about those times when we face situations or events that we did not plan on. Those unexpected moments in life that can cause us to fear.
Last year I lost my job and it was an unexpected event that I had not planned on. Fear came knocking at my door and I let fear in, and started playing the what if game. Fear had me homeless and living under a bridge. I knew I had to let go of my fear and stop playing this game. I knew I had to do what Proverbs 3:5 says, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;”
Jesus has planned for the winters, the cold times in our lives, and like the Proverbs 31 woman He has plans to keep us covered, protected and warm. “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
Nothing happens to us that God is not aware of. He knew I was going to lose my job long before I did. He provided everything I needed during that time, and He blessed me with an even better job. His plans are good, and like the Proverbs 31 woman we should not fear because He has already provided everything we need. ~ Cheryl
