This is my third year experiencing Church of the Highlands 21 Days of Prayer. It has been the most incredible growing experience I have had in my life. Nothing quite compares to praying with thousands of people for 21 days. Words can’t express how life changing it has been for me. This year we declared and prayed for five things everyday. One of the declarations we have been praying is wisdom for our future.
Why pray for wisdom? Because we so desperately need it. The Word tells us in Proverbs 4:7, “Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.” I don’t know about you, but I don’t have all the answers, and I don’t know if I am going in the right direction without turning to God and asking Him. Has it always been this way for me? No. There was a time when I thought I knew all the answers and I had everything going for me, and I knew the way. But, that was when I was a teenager, and back then I knew it all and no one could tell me otherwise. I left home at 16 thinking this was the best way to go. It was a hard road to travel and not one I would recommend, but along the way I found God and everything changed. I found someone who loved me and wanted the best for me. Someone who knew everything about everything. It was then I realized how much I needed God and His wisdom because I really didn’t know anything at all compared to Him.
You might think wisdom is just for those who have lived a long time or for those who are smart, but James 1:5 says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” Wisdom is for everyone who will ask. During these 21 days of prayer at Church of the Highlands we have been declaring and praying and asking God for wisdom for our future. Today I wanted to echo back to you some of what we have been praying.
Together we declare wisdom for our future. We pray God that you will give us supernatural wisdom. We thank you for your Word that says, we’ll hear a voice behind us, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” We pray that you will silence every voice that’s not your voice. God that you will silence every voice that would lead us the wrong way. We know you are the God that can open any door and you are the one that can close any door. We pray that you would open the right ones and you would close the wrong ones. God close every door that is not of you. Give us the wisdom to know and to see and to move in you.
Father we need wisdom for our future. Lord God we only have a future because you give it to us. God we have one day to live and it’s today, and we are going to live it for you for all we’re worth, but if you give us tomorrow, Father we pray that we love you more tomorrow than we did today. We pray God that there is more power on the church tomorrow then there was on the church today. We pray father for wisdom for the future because the world is asking questions. The world is crying out. The world is trying everything in the world to satisfy the longings of the heart. Show us how to reach them. You said, “Ask me and I’ll give you the nations for your inheritance.” Father, Give us the nations.
We pray wisdom for America. Wisdom for our leaders. Wisdom over finances. Wisdom in our work place. Wisdom over raising children. Wisdom over purity and relationships. Wisdom in our marriages. Wisdom for how to break the cycle of divorce. In the name of Jesus we pray for your great wisdom! ~ Cheryl
