I’m Kind of a Big Deal

Tonya 2 copyWow! Can you believe our time is up this semester with the leading ladies of the New Testament? What great examples these women were of the early church and to the women of today. From being a generous disciple; a faithful mother; a godly grandmother; a joyful maid; a business women with priorities; a competent worker to a humble laborer. Each of these women brought something to the table. Although I learned something from each lady I learned a very important lesson about myself from the ladies as a whole.

It’s not a lesson from a history book but a truth from the book itself: The Bible. You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous- how well I know it (Psalm 139:13-14). I learned that God created me (character flaws and all) for His glory and that makes me a big deal.

He didn’t just throw me together. He knitted every detail of my being from the color of my eyes and hair to the placement of my identifying mark on my right toe. I am loved. And I am loved by God. I am by no means perfect. Only God is. I have things about myself I don’t like but don’t we all. We don’t like our hair, the way we look or maybe we are just too hard on ourselves.

For me, I am my own worst enemy. I let self-talk beat me up. “I can’t do that.” or “I’m not good enough.” I have let negative thoughts imprison me. I have let negative thoughts keep me from living a life God has created me for. The next time self-doubt creeps in I am going to go to the one who knitted me. I am going to go to the Word of God find a verse and claim it as my own.

Sometimes God uses my flaws as a weakness. A weakness that can only being strengthened by relying on him. (Let’s just say this one is a work in progress. I still keep hitting the snooze button more than once). And relying on him means trusting him. And who better to trust than the one who knew me before I was born.

My relationship with God continues to grow and flourish. I am amazed by Him every day. The little things he does to let me know he is thinking of me: The warmth of the sun on my face, or the single flower that grows between the crack in the concrete or the full moon outside my bedroom window that softly glows into my room. With each new morning I am blessed with grace that God has given me another day to be the best me I can be.

My Take Away: I am a small but significant piece in God’s design. Just like the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle some are not meant to be put together first like those of the end pieces. Some are meant to be the surrounding or middle pieces of the puzzle. Regardless of the piece I represent in the puzzle without me the puzzle would not be complete.

Your Turn: God created you for a purpose.  Do you know your purpose for today?  You have an important piece to bring to the table. We invite you to share below of your struggles, challenges and victories as you figure out your part of the puzzle.  ~ Tonya
