The Leader

Acts 21:8-9

We live in a world that can often times leave us to feel like what we do doesn’t matter….like one person can’t make a difference. I sometimes find myself conforming to the ways of the world because it is just easier. I justify my actions because I’m not doing anything “wrong.” I’m a good person, with good intentions, who isn’t hurting anyone. But who is it helping, when I am conforming to the ways of the world, when I have been called to something greater?

Acts 21: 8,9 talks about Philip who was a man that lived for the Lord. He was one of the seven, meaning he was one of the first deacons of the church. He had four daughters that prophesied. What they prophesied we do not know, but how lucky they were to have such an example that Philip set for them. Philip is an example that one person can make a difference. For his family, his faith, made a big difference. I believe his example taught them to trust in The Lord, listen to The Lord, and stand up for others by sharing what The Lord was speaking to them. They were making a difference based on the example and guidance bestowed on them.

A few years ago God began to call me to a place of leadership. A position that if I am completely honest about makes me feel honored but also completely out of my depth in many ways. I don’t want to mess up and sometimes I strive for a perfection that I will never reach. I am human. However, the more I conform to the ways of this flawed world, the more out of my depth I feel. The more I learn about this thing called leadership is that God isn’t asking us to be “The Leader” at all. He is asking us to fall in line with Him. To live our life based on His principle. To love others and allow others to see what The Lord is doing in our own life. To be a light that shines so brightly of His love for us that attracts the attention of the lost. He doesn’t need us to be “The Leader,” but he does want our lives to draw other people to Him. He wants us to speak of His truth and His grace. That is what our earthly role of leadership is all about. Is it leadership, YES, but the stress of leadership comes when we fail to realize that we really aren’t the leader at all…GOD IS!d84000bba8cfc92ec7f0360cced56abb

Our job is to shine brightly, share His love, and live our life based on God’s authority. One person can make a difference, but we have to get out of the way and allow God to use us. We have to align ourselves and our lives up with God, trust that He will use us to plant His seeds into the heart of others and know with unwavering faith that God will continue to water the seeds that He planted. But our life matters, the way we live matters. None of us were meant to conform to the ways of the world, but to live a life of greatness through Him.

Galatians 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
