Have you ever experienced a season of life where you struggle to feel empathy for another person because your emotions are really all you can take? Your schedule is all you can take. Your issues are all you can take. However, for me at least, this is also the time that I feel that I am needed more, the pressure is on, and I have to put on my big girl panties and deal with it.
There is a girl in scripture that ran from one household to another to get away from the emotions of her sister….and probably her own emotions as well. Her name is Drusilla. Her sister was extremely envious of her…and once she had enough she left with a man who would cost her her faith….and ultimately her life. We all have choices to make and some are easy and some are not. We can allow our own emotions and/or the emotions of others to be our guide….or we can choose God.
When I am in a moment of not wanting to deal with other people and their “stuff”, the flesh of me is like, “Are you serious, Lord?” But the spirit in me is so thankful that my God loves me and trusts me enough that he is not willing to leave me in a place where I don’t belong. My purpose is to serve others, and I can only do that by being “others” centered.
We can hold onto His Word that says He will never leave us or forsake us. We can choose every day to be “others” centered. To push past our own chains to the freedom that is found through God and through service. We can love without boundaries.
God is with us each and every moment of every day to help us grow in adversity. As Rafiki in the Lion King says, “The way I see it, you can either run from it or learn from it.” Let’s not allow our faith to dwindle in adversity….Lets allow God to strengthen us in adversity. It’s not always easy, but it sure is worth it.
