I have so many thoughts running through my head about this week’s girl. I can identify with her on so many levels. I want to know so much more about this nameless girl. I want her to have a name. I want to know her whole story. I want to know all the gory details of her life. I want her to have a happy ending. These things I don’t know, but here is what I do know. I know she was a slave. I know she was a fortune-teller. I know she earned a great deal of money for her owner. And, I know she was an annoyance to Paul.
Not only was this nameless girl a slave to her master, she was a slave to her sin. Satan had consumed her. How many times do we, even as Christians, let Satan into our thoughts and our actions. Sometimes he is so slick we aren’t even aware that we are letting him have his way. His full intent is to destroy us however he can work himself into our lives. He wants to confuse our minds until we feel nameless.
God wants to free us from the slavery of our sin. When Paul rebuked the evil spirit out of this girl’s life, she was changed. By saying yes to Jesus, she was set free. At that moment, she had a new name. She was redeemed. She was Holy. She was spotless. She was now a daughter to the King.
1 Peter 2:9 “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness and into his wonderful light.” God sent his son Jesus to die so that we may live. He died so that we could be free. God wants to bring us out of the darkness of our sin and into his wonderful light.
Isaiah 43:1 ” Do not fear for I have redeemed you. I have called you by name, you are mine“
My name is Melanie Diane Carroll Cox. To God I am so much more, I am his daughter. I am his treasure and friend. But, most of all, I am His.
