We Fight for Each Other
John 10:10 “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
It is not a pleasant thought that there is an enemy of this world who seeks out the opportunity to steal, kill, and destroy our soul. But it is the truth, and because of how real it is, as Christians we have a responsibility here on earth to be “the light of the world and that city on the hill that cannot be hidden.” I am reminded of this by how Paul and Silas dealt with “the slave girl” in Acts 16.
“Once when we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a female slave who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling. She followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved.” She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became so annoyed that he turned around and said to the spirit, “In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!” At that moment the spirit left her.”
When I read this passage of scripture, my view of the slave girl is that she is just a nuisance. The words that came out of her mouth might not have been bad, heck, they were true….but Paul and Silas could discern that her soul was not right. Have you ever had someone “copy cat” every word you say. It is annoying. Well that’s how I view this slave girl. She was just being a nuisance….and I probably would have started walking a lot faster to get away from “the crazy.” But that is not what Paul and Silas did……Paul and Silas stood up against the enemy knowing the strength they had in proclaiming the name of Jesus.
I have had my moments of being like the slave girl, completely bound by the lies of the enemy. It is a dark place to be. God used other people to get to me. They showed me patience and love. But more than that they showed me The Lord’s patience and love for me. They weren’t afraid to speak TRUTH into my life along with grace. Every human being on the planet has a calling on their life. There are times when it is going to seem impossible to reach someone….but we all know that NOTHING is impossible with God.
I know I have walked away from situations and accepted it for what it is instead of standing up and proclaiming the name of Jesus! There is power in His name and not only should I be proclaiming His name into the situations of my own life…..but also over the lost. We all have been called to love people. Jesus meets each and everyone of His children where they are. Praise God that He didn’t require me to reach a certain level of ‘GETTING IT TOGETHER’ before He allowed me to come to Him. God has always been so patient with me, and I pray that I can bestow on other people the same patience that God showed me. I pray that I recognize the enemy’s schemes instead just walking away. I pray that I always remember that “our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” God needs us to fight for each other, not against each other.” All the annoying people that drive us bonkers…..GOD HAS AN AMAZING PLAN FOR….God has called us to help Him reach these people….and sometimes this begins with sending the ugly, toothless devil on his way.
I pray that like Paul and Silas when I get annoyed with people I recognize what is really going on….and I raise up like the warrior princess I am for God’s kingdom and stand up against the devil…..and that is what I believe happened with the slave girl…Once a slave girl, now transformed into a mighty warrior princess, daughter to the Most High King!
