God’s Not Finished

Acts 9;36-42

~ Melanie Cox

What are you known for?  Everyone has something they are good at doing or making.  My mom is an amazing baker.  My husband is a talented fisherman.  My daughter is an excellent dancer.  All these things are talents and gifts God has given us.

Dorcus Melanie

In Acts 9 we can read the story of Dorcas.  Dorcas was a seamstress and was known for her good works and acts of charity.  She would make clothes and give them away to the less fortunate.  More importantly, she was known as a dedicated follower of Jesus.  God gave her these talents and spiritual gifts to glorify him, and she did.

God had an amazing plan for Dorcas.  In the beginning of the story we learn that she became very sick and died.  I imagine she was surrounded by her friends who dearly loved her.  Once Dorcas had died, they prepared her body and took her to the upper room.  After this, two men went to get Peter.  When Peter arrived, he went to the upper room and began to pray that God would choose to heal Dorcas’s body.  Peter presented her alive to all of her friends.

Through Dorcas’s life and death God was honored.  After she was brought back to life, this miracle became known all throughout the city.  As a result, many people came to believe in the Lord and wanted to also follow him.

No matter what season of life you may be in, God’s not finished with you.  He wants to use us for His glory.  So whether you bake, sing, dance, write, or fish; God has a plan.  He will use you in ways you could never imagine.
